“Points of Interest – East Berlin” is a collaboration of free 3D artists and photographers, creating digital models for an interactive, web based city map of Berlin. The group was launched in 2007 by Lester Balz, Marten Suhr and Andreas Naurath (texturing/art direction/supervision) working in commission of the Berlin city government. Existing models didn’t meet the high quality demands of a real time rendering engine in the web, especially: precision in dimension, (low) polygon count and texture quality. This time, all buildings were shot on-site by photographers and their exact dimensions were taken from land registry material. In 2008, I contributed modelling and texturing of “Humboldt University” and “New National Gallery” to the project. (Photography: Susanne Serwe)
