Movie Redux

This special cut of “2001 – A Space Odyssey” is about boiling down the visual information of a large number of images (video frames) to get a reduced version in a single picture. I started with frame icons (frames scaled down to a few pixels). Then, instead of down-scaling, arranging small portions of a frame, ending with single lines, wich is also the basics of Slit Scanning.
25 lines (frames) per second was still too much data. For my experiment, I ended up with 10 fps. That was good enough, to see, what’s happening.
Large parts got quite abstract. Here and there, people or objects can be spotted. The sequences are also revealing the editing rhythm and the use of colors in the movie.
